Spring is a time for renewal, and this year, I got a head start. If you noticed my absence in March, it’s because I was on the move—connecting with my PBCA colleagues at a coaching retreat, celebrating milestone birthdays with my family on a sun-soaked beach, and working closely with a client during a focused retreat. These experiences gave me the rare gift of stepping back, gaining perspective, and reflecting on what really matters as we look ahead.
What Travel Taught Me About Leadership
Stepping out of the day-to-day isn’t just refreshing—it’s essential for growth. Here’s what I learned (or was reminded of!) during my travels.
Connection is Fuel for Innovation
There’s nothing like gathering with fellow coaches to spark new ideas. We challenged each other, shared our best practices, and left with fresh strategies for empowering teams. It reinforced for me: When you create space for honest conversation, innovation follows.
Balance Isn’t a Luxury—It’s a Leadership Tool
On the beach, surrounded by family, I was reminded that stepping away from work is not just about rest—it’s about coming back with renewed energy and a clearer mind. Leaders who prioritize well-being set the tone for their teams and drive better results

A Change of Scenery Unlocks New Thinking
During my client retreat, we found that simply being in a new environment helped us see challenges differently. Sometimes, the best solutions come when you break routine and invite fresh perspectives.

Bringing It Home: Reinventing Your Work Culture
If there’s one theme that kept popping up during my travels, it’s this: The world of work is changing, and leaders need to change with it. Hybrid teams, new technologies, shifting expectations—these aren’t just trends; they’re the new normal.
So how do you keep your culture resilient and ready for what’s next? Here are three steps I recommend:
1. Make Space for Real Connection
Whether it’s a team huddle or a one-on-one coffee, prioritize genuine conversations. Trust and collaboration start here.
2. Build Flexibility Into Your Culture
Encourage your team to take breaks, embrace flexible schedules, and support their well-being. Small changes can have a big impact.
3. Lead the Way—Be the Example
Be open about what’s working and what isn’t. Invite feedback, experiment with new ideas, and show your team that reinvention is a shared journey.

Challenge for Spring
Pick one area in your work culture that could use a refresh. Maybe it’s your meeting format, your recognition program, or just carving out more time for real conversations. Set a goal, share it with your team, and see what happens. Sometimes, the smallest tweaks lead to the biggest breakthroughs.
